April - May 2019 - Work Progress

April Completed Work

Flooring
The first task upon arrival in Colondannes was to collect the flooring that would be used in the Salon, Kitchen and Bathroom.  I spotted a extra 15% off offer at Lapeyre in February and decided to order this ahead of time and did a test lay of a pack to verify the look and was very pleased.
It turned out to be Quick-Step Flooring and will be easy to lay, with the underlay matting which will make it good to walk on and warm under foot, hopefully!

Windows and Back Door
As expected, SAS Adam visited to deliver and fit the new Garden Room Rear Door and Windows. Took 2 days to install and the quality is great.  Make the room water tight now and allowed me to finish the exterior woodwork and before fitting, I managed to render the low breeze block wall as as well.

These window create a nice view out to the courtyard and garden, as well as from the roadway over M. Herrbout's garden.

Internal Garden Room Doors
Having secured the rear of the house, I was then able to remove the old back door and the door to the Utility Room.  These both came off easier than expected and it was also easier to fit the new glazed door to the Salon with it's frame that I expected in the space.  With a  little positional adjustment and fixing it was easy to secure it to the opening walls and it now closes perfectly.

I plan to render over the new frame and the old door surround to tidy up on both side of the Salon Door, which should hopefully result in a nice effect, when of render the exposed stone back wall of the Garden Room.

Electrics and Plumbing
To my delight ALS-Frappat arrived to start the work on the 1st fit Electrics and Plumbing. This was completed in about 7 days in all and despite my poor French it did allow me to clarify any points on my layout plans to ensure the right locations were chosen.

The decision to remove all the ceilings has proved to be the right decision, making the task much easier and avoiding complications and comprises.

Ceiling Levelling
So having completed the Kitchen first, I was then able to finish the levelling and fixing of new Ceiling Supports for the plasterboard runs.  This proved a little complex a first and until I got used to what was needed, but I managed to complete the whole room and plan to complete all rooms during the next visit.

Plasterboard and Plastering
Sometimes you get lucky!  and another Brit in the village has had an attic conversion completed and the plaster finish it superb. So, rather then me attempt just to use dry lining, as is normal in France, i have met the English plasterer and have agreed he will return in October to plaster all of my ceilings and walls in October, or at least those one I will not render.

So... I now have a work plan to undertake all the ceiling levelling by end June and the insulation of all the ceilings and partition walls, as well as plaster boarding over the coming summer period.  Just hope it is not too hot!!
